My Husband

Big Daddy is an extremely hard working person. I'm not just saying as a compliment, I really mean it. With out divulging his entire life story I'll just sum it up into what he's doing now. Right now he is working two jobs. He is a full time fireman, and also works 6-6 or later at a rock quarry as an equipment operator and as the "catch all" guy. So let's just look at what three days usually holds for him. On duty at the fire department: He has his morning chores as the rookie. It's the cleaning and general maintenance that any house hold would require and then add the fact that there a fire pump and bay also. Throw in several medical emergencies, house fires big and small, and accidents. They take turns cooking for the crew of four so he may or may not need to whip up a meal somewhere in there. He's a rookie so he has semester tests, driving test for equipment, a check "list" to complete on proficiency in tasks, EMT school is coming up, so... no pressure right? Now, please understand, I am not complaining about the fire department AT ALL. Being a firefighter's wife gives you an entire new respect for those driven to be firefighters. He is not being asked to do anything that isn't of a purpose of preparedness and safety. After most likely not sleeping through the night, (after about five months of being on the department he's slept all night three times) he comes home changes and goes off to the quarry. In the heat, in the elements he may be asked to do any and all of multiple tasks because he's driven himself to know and be extremely effective in every piece of equipment out there. He works til 6pm or later, and now the quarry is working weekends too, so even if his "off duty" days fall on the weekend he will still be working a ten or twelve hour day. That's just a quick synopsis of his work schedule. Top that off with being a loving husband willing to listen to me and talk with me until the late hours, help with dishes and kitchen clean up "since you cooked" he says, and an incredible father that plays and laughs and leads our household, and and extremely helpful son and son in law willing to help out family at the drop of a hat. Do you know how warm, and humbled I felt this morning when he walked in with flowers for me and when I asked why he said " Because you work so hard around here. I wanted to show you I appreciate it." Well, Big Daddy isn't much on flowers to here's one way I'm showing we appreciate him; by posting for any and all to see a small amount of how hard he works and how wonderful he is. If you have a husband, significant other, any one in your life that is just amazing tell them you love them and you appreciate them. They don't have to be perfect, the best things in life don't come wrapped up in perfect, they come wrapped up in love.
